Land Acknowledgement
Grounding Roots was established on the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinàbeg Nation. The Algonquin people have lived on this land since time immemorial, honoring all beings—both animate and inanimate—that exist in relationship with the land.
As a Métis visitor to this territory, I recognize my responsibility to acknowledge the original stewards of this land. Ottawa is also home to many other Indigenous peoples, including Inuit and Métis communities, as well as those who have sought refuge here, those displaced from their own territories, and the generations that have followed.
I invite you to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be a visitor on Algonquin territory. Consider how we benefit from the land’s resources and how we might honor the custodianship of the Algonquin Nation through our actions, relationships, and commitments.
